Biography
Eric French (b. 1969) earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1994 from the School ofFine Arts and Design in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Master’s Degree in 1996 from the Savannah College of Arts and Design in Savannah, Georgia. French's body of work reflects a profound love and comprehension of color theory, demonstrating a disciplined approach rooted in extensive subject research. His artistic journey involves a dedicated study of composition and the impact of art fundamentals on content, resulting in varied visual outcomes. Whether through expressive gestures in abstract pieces or precise approaches in geometric works, French's confident strokes and masterful use of color serve as a cohesive thread in his open-style approach to artmaking.
Recent exhibitions include Expanding Universe at the Ángel Ramos Foundation’s Sala Far in San Juan Puerto Rico, Ten Billion Light Years in Diameter in the RJ Reynolds Gallery at the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico and Art of Elysium & Christie’s Charitable Art Auction & Exhibition, at the Ace Museum in Los Angeles, California.
His work’s featured in private and public collections nationally and internationally including the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California, the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2020 he was awarded the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. French lives and works in San Juan and has been a Professor of Visual Arts in the School of Fine Arts for the past 29 years.
