It's not every day we get the opportunity to witness the art of true masters. These artists, through their unique skills and diverse approaches, present us with pieces that tell important stories-personal and historical. Their works reflect the time in which they live, while highlighting their individual perspectives.
Bárbara Díaz Tapia's pieces, titled "Espécimen 1 and 2," made with acrylic, gold leaf, gel texture, gloss gel on canvas, and metal grommets, seem to flow like waves and set the tone for the exhibition. These works invite viewers to carefully observe each detail, demonstrating the artist's distinctive style. A committed feminist, Díaz Tapia often conveys beauty, strength, and even grotesque elements in her vibrant, dynamic art.
Haydeé Landing's pieces compel viewers to pause, reflect, and consider Puerto Rico's contemporary reality. Her works, titled "Promesa 1 and 2," address the profound impact of the law establishing Puerto Rico's Fiscal Oversight and Management Board, portraying this complex situation through striking three-dimensional paper sculptures. One piece features a screaming face, while another shows a pair of scissors below a serious, affected figure. These impactful artworks immediately seize the attention of anyone entering the exhibition.
